Default pistons and N2O

i am putting a 383 LT1 together that has N2O rails in it that can handle from 150 shot to a 300 shot. i have speed-pro hypereutectic floating pin pistons summit part number TRW-8KH860CP30 and was wondering what would be the recommended shot used on these pistons since they are not forged?

I would say 150 would be fine. 200 and I think you would be pushing it a bit but just have a good tune.

If they aren't forged i would assume that they are not any stronger than the stockers, so 150???

I would suggest talking to Speed-Pro directly, they will know best. It will also depend on how the rings are set up.

i was told that it should take 200 easy with the 11.5-1 compression that it has and the hypereutectic pistons that are in it.... would nitrous based rings have a tighter gap? i know that the top is a molly coated and they are 1/16, 1/16, 3/16.

i was just wondering how the rings would need to be set up beside the normal stagger and design.

Before the motor is fired, I'd get those pistons out of there and get a good nitrous piston, and sell the ones you have.

You'll thank me later.

ring gaps are larger for nitrous, or any power adder for that matter. Those pistons might be ok with 200....untill it detonates, then you have trouble. forged pistons are less fragile and can deal with a little detonation, hypers, on the other hand..well damn near shatter

Ring gap is different, how far down from the top the first ring is, alot of stuff.

Sucks that they're heavier, but ou need more material in order to withstand abuse. Rebalancing the whole lower end isn't probably something you wanted to do, but if you want to hit it, you really need the right parts.
