Default Camshaft install tool?

I'm doing a cam swap this Friday and the person who has the cam install tool looks like they aren't going to make it. I really don't want to have to buy a new one for this 1 time deal. Does anyone have I can borrow? I live in Puyallup, so if you can help, please shoot me a PM!!!

My last cam swap, I did the pen magnet method and it was flawless. Harbor Freight, $1.69 each.

5/16" wooden dowl rods at Home Depot. one 24 inch long, the other 26 or 27. I think. Cost like 4 bucks.

Just make sure they are cleaned off, and no splinters on the ends. Take some fine Sandpaper to them. Coat them with oil, and your good to go.

you could also go get a few metal rods from home depot and make the same thing, and not have to worry about splinters. Probably cost ~$10

The lifters trays will hold the lifters ( on a cold engine) We've done it quite a few times, never used a tool.

On 90% of the cars that's true George / Nick. But every once is a while one falls out. Ask Doug (call-sign Plinker ) how much fun it is to drop the pan to go find it. So we of little courage stick rods into the oil galley holes. Ellis has a set that has been clearanced to fit perfectly (some engines as a bight tighter on the dr? side and you can damage lifters).

Always use rods Geo. nothing like having to hang the engine and pull the K-Member, Oil Pan and windage try to get the lifter back.

Well I ended up using dowels. Well let me restate that, a dowel. The driver side one went in after a few tries after a ton of lubing. The passenger side would just not go. So a guy that was there suggested we use the dipstick. I was a little nervous but said let's go for it. It actually worked perfect. The new cam is in, however now I'm having a hard time swapping out the oil pump. There is 1 bolt on the front of the pan that we can't get to in order to lower it.

Now just need a hood to get her back to her formy glory. Still contemplating if I want an SS or Sunoco hood. Currently leaning toward the option B, but we'll see

That front pickup tube bolt SUCKS! It's doable just be super careful to NOT drop it in the pan.
