Dual Porter buffer tips??
Merry Xmas
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
The two pads types that are talked about in the appearance section are Lake County & Sonus. I have been using the Meguiar's pads and have been really pleased. I've used the Sonus pads as well and didn't think they were any better than the Mequiar's pads.
Lake County, Sonus and Mequiar's all have three types of pads.
Mequiar's 1. Red cutting pad
2. Yellow polishng pad
3. Tan finishing pad.
The plan I have for the black vette Ellis is working on. It's black car with alot of swirls and water spots.
1. Clay bar
2. Mequiar's Paint cleaner with red pad
3. Menzerna Intensive polish with red pad
4. Menzerna Final polish with yellow pad
5. Meguiar's was with Tan finishing pad
Check out www.autotopia.com or www.meguairs.com
Also there is some kind of etching water spots on the trunk lid. Is wetsanding and then using the polish an option or does the Intensive polish "cut" a little to get to that kind of stuff if you work it long enough?? Sorry for the stupid questions I have never used a buffer before.
Sonus has that set you can buy at Autotopia I may pic that up if it has what I need....
Thanks for the pointers wish you were closer so someone could show me
1. Autopia is a good vendor they ship very quickly.
2. Water spots I have not tried this but that Vette may need it. Mix equal parts distilled water with White Vinager. Spray it on the spot and wipe off.
3. Autopia web site has some great tutorials they do have one for using the Porter Cable, it is like 22 pages long.
4. Do not mix product with you pads use a seperate pad for each product.
5. When fixing a flaw in the paint start with the least aggressive product. If you don't get it you can always go more aggressive.
6. I've wet sanded one hood. It's not hard but after wet sanding you need to use a rotary with an aggressive compound to get the sanding marks out, then again with the rotary buffer with a polish to get the swirl marks out from the compound. I probably spent 8 hours on the hood, it turned out great the surface felt like a high dollar street rod.
7. Another great thing about the Porter Cable is it does not create a hugh mess like the rotary buffer does. I tape off all the rubber & vinyl trim with the blue painters masking tape. I like the blue tape it does not leave any residue.
Have fun with your new tool
