Default ORR Setup Questions

I posted this once & the board crashed on me...

Anyway, I have run into some basic questions that don't seem to be covered here in the AutoX forum or on the ORR.com board. So, Bill, Boyce or whoever has a thought please chime in.

Regarding 5 pt harnesses, are the expensive units (like Simpson) really worth double the expense of the reasonable units (like G-Force)?

Should I invest in a 5-10lb Halon Fire Supression System, or is the trusty fire ext mounted on the roll cage good enough? I mean, I like the idea of the Halon not dsetroying the motor or electronics if I need to use it, but I can find many ways to spend $500.

Is the Nady intercom the way to go? Is it easy to mount in the helmets? And can I take it back out & use my helmet for drag racing?

I seemed to have forgotten my other 2 items. I'll post them later.

NO Simpsons aren't worth the money. IMO your paying for the name. I've got RCI's and they are pretty nice. DO spend the money for the camlocks however no matter which brand you choose.

This just depends on you and your budget. I wouldn't mind having a full halon system, but like you I have to choose where I spend my money since I'm not made of it.

I use a Nady and it's inexpensive and works great. It's very easy to mount in the helmet (velcro) and pulls right out again. There are much more expensive setups on the market and I presume much better, but I haven't seen the need as of yet.

Well, I remembered 1 more question.

Does the car stay relatively cool during the race with just air coming thru the vents? Or will I need to tun the A/C? My glasses tend fog up inside my helmet at the track, and my contacts don't correct my astigmatism so I can't read the dashboard with them. I've never worn a fire suit, so I assume I'll be sweating, meaning my glasses will fog up.

Where do you buy the Nady? A motorcycle shop?

I'll agree with everything that Bill said in his first post. The fire system can wait. Yeah, its great being able to have a big bottle but that **** AINT cheap. And right now the money is better spent else where. A 2.5 or 5 pound extinguisher will be fine for your first run.

as far as harness's. They way I see it is that anything that is more expensive than the cheapest one out there is to expensive. They all have to meet the same safety standards. I went with Crow. Reasonably priced against everyone else and the cam lock they use if great.

Cool, I can handle $75 for a fire extinguisher. And one of the sponsors here (Billingsly?) sells the RCIs. Maybe I'll go that route. Gee, I've already "saved" enough $ for a cage....
