Default New Car

In keeping with my latest trend of getting year old model leftovers, we've signed the deal to take home a 2004 GTO. It's Black Metallic with the automatic and red interior. We decided to trade in the Firehawk and got a decent amount out of the car for trade in. We paid a little over invoice for the GTO ($31,200) and our trade-in's totalled $29,200 (Firehawk for $24,200 and the Celica for $5000).

The best part of all of this is that while we did give up a kick *** car (the Hawk, not the Celica...) I think we have gained a car that has most of the performance of the hawk but far fewer of the annoyances. It is much quieter and much smoother riding. The seats are nice!

What I think I like the most is that I was trying hard to keep the Firehawk in perfect condition and as unmolested as possible. Basically it took a lot of the enjoyment out of it. This car I can do whatever with and not feel an ounce of guilt

Also, I dropped the Firehawk off at the dealership to have the recently started piston slap evaluated. That's the whole reason I was even there! The piston slap was pretty excessive and only developed in the last couple of months Teresa drove it. It would last in the 2 minute to 3 minute range and I got the distinct feeling that the dealer was going to try to tell me that it was normal. Now I guess I don't care Instead of picking up the firehawk tomorrow I should be picking up the GTO

As a side note... did you ever notice how you always seem to trade or sell a car just after you fill up the gas tank or change the oil? At least this time I turned it in with less than 1/8 of tank of gas, but it did have only 20 miles on fresh Mobil one

Kick ***! The GTO's are a sweet *** car.

You know people are grabbing those off the net for $24-25K... I would have waited for a 05 with the 6.0L. But hey thats just me.

Yeah.. maybe I could have scored a 2004 super cheap... maybe I could have waited and picked up a 05 without outrageous markup.... maybe, etc.

Instead, I actually got a 2004 for a pretty decent price, got the best price going for my trade-in and best of all... it's all paid off.

BTW, I forgot to thank you for pointing out that Red Firehawk in the local area that priced way under what I was asking for mine. That was helpful, too.

I know what you mean! When I traded in my 99 Grand Cherokee for the TA, I had just done oil, trans, diffs, and replaced the rotors and pads!

Congrats on the new ride!

I don't know you (I don't think) but nice job dude!!!! While I am all for keeping cars like your old 'Hawk for sentimental reasons, I can totally relate to what you did. And I would not mind having an '04 GTO at ALL cuz the $$ you save from the diff of an '05 is pure mod $$

You know something funny, I actually kind of like the one thing that most people blast on the GTO about... the "lack" of styling. Every car I've ever owned always had a lot of distinct styling. This one is a total sleeper in that you almost have to be looking for it. While I like the 05 hood scoops and such... I like that this one will be much more easy to "fly under the radar with"

Besides, 400 hp is only a few mods away... Hell, after the warranty is up this would be great candidate for the SLP 402 bottom end Like I said I feel like we can drive this and eventually mod it guilt free.

Hey I am always here to help! You never did say how much you wanted for the Hawk.

Where did you get the car? Was it at Haselwood? Like I said, I love the GTO's. I totaly agree with you on the styling also. Thats why I am a Camaro guy, over the Pontiacs, I like the laid back style.

Nice choice in cars Cory. I agree about the sleeper thing, you'll be invisible to the police in that car ! It took me a little over an hour to get a ticket in my WS6 when I bought it haha ! I'd love to take a ride in your car sometime, but I'm afraid to go to the dealership because vehicles always seem to follow me home when I do that

Congrats
Bill

Nice choice.

My oldest just got his learners permit, my wife drives a 96 Grand Cherokee which is the family wagon, she thinks her Jeep would make a good safe ride and she wants a Saab convertible. Yes that's right a Saab convertible , I've trying to talk her into a Goat.
