I would try the 90mm personely, after knowing how high his cam likes to spin. It would be the perfect set up for a set of heads, if he wants to go that route. If it doesn't work for you you could sell it and buy the 78, and probely still come out on top.

Certainly the 90 has the possibilty of doing more. And if Jason builds a stroker or adds BIG cam, new pistons & some AFR 225 heads later on, then it's the right choice. But myself, spending the extra $600 (gotta buy their TB too) when your setup doesn't "need it" now is something to think about. I guess it could be a plan-for-the-future type thing.....but I'd buy the 78 & some Prostars & skinnies.

I'd probably go with the 90mm if I could justify the extra cost... mostly it's the cost of that damn throttle body ($420 or so), plus the extra $150 or so for stepping up to the bigger intake. That right there covers the cost of upgrading my rear sway bar and new gears. I agree with Mark, the 78mm should be enough for a stock cubed car that has a milder head setup.

If I do go heads, I'll be going with a stage 2 5.3L set, which isn't all that aggressive in the grand scheme of things... I'd go with those because I'd like to get the higher compression and add a little power in the midrange as well as top end. If at that time (which wouldn't be for another year probably) it looks like I need to feed it more air, well, then I'll just spring for the top and middle sections of the 90mm LSX and the throttle body at that time...

This is a really good discussion... I like hearing everyone's opinion. Keep 'em coming!

personelly if it were me and i wanted jasons goals, i would start getting rid of weight from that beast. i looked at the gross vehicle weight on mine yesterday and the sticker said 4230# , well now the car weighs 3340, with me in it. and you know what they say 100#=.1 in the 1/4. I would hold off on the motor stuff and put the car on a diet, you dont have to get as drastic as me but i am shure we could take a couple of hundred pounds out of that thing aand still keep all the comforts. Just taking out about 300# would be a biggewr help than adding 15hp.

Just a thought, but is the 90mm Throttle body that is on the LS2 engines from the factory compatible? I don't know what the price would be on that, but it may be less than the $420. Especially if you were able to wait a bit and pick one up from a wrecking yard after someone has an OOPS.

I read some bad things about the LS2 intake manifold. Read that the 78mm FAST kicks the **** out of it on the dyno and at the track..
