Request Appt w/Dr Groo
Looking at my crystal ball, and guessing when I'll get my chceck from the IRS, how about we pencil in the last weekend in March to bring my car over? Hopefully I'll have my check or my sons Mitsubishi sold by then.
Do you want me to compile my wish list, or do you have a solid idea what you're going to do to my tranny?
High output pump slide spring
Billet aluminum boost valve in pump
Install hardened stator shaft in pump cover
FLP hi-pro friction 2-4 band with solid lining
8-Borg/Warner .078 hi energy frictions with koleen steels 3-4 clutch
Borg/Warner 29 element forward sprag
Borg/Warner 4L65E low roller clutch
FLP heavy duty sun shell with bearing
FLP extreme duty input housing with steel sleeve pressed around input shaft splines with machined overun piston to increase strength
New Borg Warner clutches
New bushings
New GM internal wiring harness
New GM solenoids
New GM pressure manifold switch
New seals, gaskets, and filter
Install Transgo HD-2 performance shift kit with 2 washers
Transgo vacuum mod kit
Corvette servo
Aluminum 1-2 and forward accumulator piston upgrade replaces plastic pistons
5 pinion planetary
So, what do I NEED?
I think better clutches & bands & planetaries are good things to do. As well as a deep pan and a cooler. But beyond that I am guessing. You know what I want to do with my car (try to run 11s AND run an open road race someday) and judging from Ryans car & others your **** works, so you tell me.
At one point you talked about running 2 tranny coolers. I have the B&M 24k cooler in front of the Be-Cool radiator that has a cooler in it. I have a 180* thermostat & my fans are set to come on @ 175 & 185. The B&M is mounted in front of the hi-flow fan. And I will have a temp gauge. Again, I will listen to you if you think this isn't enough. (the engine temp is solid @ 190* now)
Gotta be something around your shop I can wax.
And Mark I promise I won't touch anything.
How about a Trans-Go vacuum modulator Ellis? Is this a good idea on 4L60Es?
This is a mod list from another supplier (obviously incomplete)
Red Eagle® clutches, Kolene® treated steel plates, Red Eagle®-lined, extra-wide Powerbands™, larger diameter servo assemblies, an improved lubrication system, new sprags/roller clutches (upgraded in certain models), enhanced hard parts where applicable, chrome-plated, transmission pan, increased thrust capacity, higher line pressure for extra firm shifts & greater torque capacity with less slippage

Just be VERY careful you don't leave there with a pink transmission. Right Ryan?
Oh, and plastic pistons = very bad. Ugh. Good choice to replace. ;-)
I'm interested in this 2 cooler thing. I put a 24k GVW cooler in (after the in radiator cooler) and so far I've only seen tranny temps above 160* a few times this winter. Hell, after a 25 mile drive it is rarely over 150. Can you run too cool? I'm thinking I may need to put a thermostat or other control in there to get the temps up in the winter.
Ellis' stuff is da bomb!

I might be getting me another one of those Groo Transmissions soon.
