Default racing ? need advise

I noticed while watching the video tape of my T/A racing at Monroe that my running lights were on for all of my races. What should I do about that? just leave them on or would it benefit me to have them turned off, if so how do I get them off while the engine is running.

I don't think it would do much for performance, but you could pull the fuse for the DRL's to see if it changes anything.

just the daytime running lights correct? I don't think that those two lights will gain you anything in time for the drags. they come on when you take off the ebrake after you start the car. they don't go off until you shut off the car.

I doubt the slight current draw from the DRLs would have any affect. The headlights being open however would add a fair amount of wind reistance & might.

Before you start your car pull the e-brake handle up one detent. When you start your car the DRL's will remain off and you don't have to worry about the e-brake being partially on. It'll still be 100% disengaged. I don't think it'll gain you anything, but if you want to drive with the DRL's off this is how you do it.

I just learned that trick at the track last Friday!

I don't think having the lights on drags much off the time and I do know at PR after dark they want you to have at least one light on the car so we leave the driving lights on while we're racing...

Thanks for all of your responses, I'm not going to worry about the lights. I also noticed that my antenna was up and realized after watching the video that my CD player was on also with the volumn turned down. I know I'm an idiot, I wonder if the CD player hurt my times.

I brought a portable airtank with me so I was able to drop the tires to 17 psi. Did a 15 second burnout and the MT radials hooked bigtime. On my 3rd. run I couldn't even do a burnout, I was just pushing my front end all over the track.You guys were right, the MT ET streets like to be hot.

I raced an 02 Supercharged lightening for my first race and beat him by a very small margin. The guy couldn't believe it so we switched lanes and we ran them again and I put a holeshot on him like you wouldn't believe. I have a video tape of both kills, the guy was in shock. The ford also had drag radials.

Excellent kill Eddie! Lightnings can be tough down low. Usually we beat them up top where wind resistance kills them. I take it this was at Monroe?

Yes WAHUSKER I raced the lightening @ Monroe on monday, the first race was extremely tight, I beat him by .040 of a second. On the second race he got raped badly off the line and the rest is history. I watched the video on our 65" TV later that night, my wife got tired of me playing the video over and over so I had to stop the damn thing and go to bed I had the volumn turned up and she said it was giving her a headache.

I also beat a Mach 1 w/428 CJ, the guy told me it runs 12.6 @ PR. I beat him by a car length.

Shaun is ordering me some 3.73 gears, I'm tired of the 3.42s. I need taller gears for Monroe.

Unless you are FULL on race then its not going to matter lights, CD on there are SOOO many other factors to worry about that could be hurting your times mainly traction.

Shoot I ran a 12.9 in the vette with the AC on

Nice runs though I'd have to see that Mach I do a 12.6 it definately wasn't stock. Lightnings, WRX's and Cobras are all fun the owners always seem to think that thier cars are untouchable...
