Default Cingular Phones & Sim Cards

So this obviously isn't my week for owning electronic devices.........checked my voice mail this afternoon on my Cingular Motorola V551 (everything was working fine) and noticed that about 90 minutes later it said "Check SIM" on the screen......so I did, and it was still a SIM card........so I turned the phone back on and then got the message "Insert SIM".........but it already was. I double checked it and now get alternating messages, either Check or Insert SIM.........any ideas? The phone is less then 4 months old and rarely gets used and the battery is fully charged.

I will be going into a Cingular store this week but I was hoping to get some insight from all you helpful types here.

Did you pull the Sim and then put it back in? The job I just left had the same service and every so often I would have to pull the sim and put back in. Then it was fine for awhile.

I have pulled it (and obviously the battery) out numerous times over the course of the last several hours and still nada.........I swear to God I must have abused electronic puppies in a past life or something for all this to be happening all of a sudden.

Weird thing is I hadn't dropped it in a while.........it was just sitting on my bed, working one minute, not the next.

Solution: Follow the Troubleshooting Steps in my signature. More than likely all that will need to be done is power down the device, remove battery and sim, leave out for a few minutes then reassemble everything and power on. You should be fine at this point, if not the call into Customer Care will be needed. DO NOT call from your device, we will need to know the SIM card numbers (ICCID).

Power cycle the phone:

· With the phone on, please remove the battery (very important).

· Remove the SIM and insert it into another phone.

If the SIM still does not work, please visit the nearest Cingular Retail store. It appears that the SIM card needs to be replaced at the nearest store. The retail store will make the determination if your SIM is defective or not.
Thanks for the help but unfortunately, nothing worked. Took the POS to a Cingular store and they said my SIM card was "fried". So I got a new one but because it was fried, they couldn't retrieve ANY of the info from the old one.........this just isn't my week for electronic stuff.

Why? Phone is all better now. Turns out that it only took all of 10 minutes redoing the address book and life is good again. And now I store stuff in the phone not the SIM card.........besides, if I had waited, I would STILL be using an LA number that waaaaay too many people had the number for. Plus it was almost 4 years old and had been dropped more times the I care to think about.
