Win XP Media Center CD Anyone have one I can use to repair my jacked up hard drive? I dug my "restore" cd's out of storage over the weekend but the only choices they give me are "Restore and wipe out the contents of the drive" or "Restore and wipe out the contents of the drive"..........not much of a choice if you ask me.
Anyone care to help a brother out?

You would be my hero.......I have a new drive and used the restore cd's that came with my 'puter, but they won't fix the original drive, which of course, has ALL my music, pics, etc stored on it cuz I was a dumbass and didn't back them up much.

I'm free tomorrow too if you want me to come take a look at it. I've been out of the game for a while but still am an A+ Certified PC tech

Josh, as for today, I just got both my storage units emptied and moved over to my new house yesterday, so I am on my way over there in a few to start unpacking and arranging furniture..........I don't think today would be a good day..........perhaps another day if you don't mind? I can extract onsite and copy to alternate laptop and/or burn to dvd. Then you should do a format/re-install from scratch, but first check current hard drive with utility to find out if the hard drive is physically failing. I do usually get $ for this stuff, but I also work for

I have tried hooking up the drive in question as a slave/secondary drive, it gets recognized initially then just plain doesn't show up anywhere except in "Device Manager"
I have tried attaching it via USB and I get the same results......if you could get my info off there I would find someone to have your children.

Verdad Gallardo Okay, sounds like you have tried the basics, which usually means the file system is hosed (hopefully not disk controller failure). So, try not to boot the drive to many more times before I can get a utlity on it and then I can examine whether or not the drive will be useable and the data can be recovered. Tom
