Default My Symptoms

What started everything: In cruise control around 90 car starts backfiring and losing power...almost like im running out of gas. take crusie control off put in nuetral car revs fine...After this these symtoms occur...

-Metal grinding noise in gear (Not out of gear)

-Noise stops after 2000 rpms

-Sounds like it is coming from the converter/flywheel area

Any ideas?

Anyone heard of this:?

It sounds like you may be hearing Pulse Width Modulation. What is happening is the lock clutch solenoid is sending very quick lock/unlock signals to the converter. The idea is to give a partial lock effect. It works well with the stock converter as its clutch is allowed to slip. Our more aggressive design doesn't allow ANY slip.

Well....

The bad part is when the converter comes apart...It takes out the pump and transmission with it.

Ask Howierd....

The cost might seem high now, but if it did contaminate the tranny with 'spare parts' and you don't have Ellis go thru it, you'll be buying a new tranny very soon. And then your into the $3k range. You have to ask yourself if you can afford to take that risk....

... and the crap in the tranny will go right into the new convertor. It sucks but its the only way.

Rebuild with Ellis or Rebuild local. That is your only choice.

Jake what happens every time you take a short cut? That converter was a short cut for a Yank or a PI and look where it got you

ALL of that stuff had to come back out some where and the pump is where. We just did Howierds for the Same problem and it took out the pump.

Maybe you have someone Local who can take care of it for you? Either way it needs done or you will get to buy another converter when you do the trans.

BTW DO NOT forget to flush the lines and cooler!
