Brute update.. Took the heads into Meridian for a bit of tweaking and discussed some possible combos for it with the guys. It's looking like I'll be shifting at around 7800 or so with the new combo. I'm probably gonna have to get a looser converter as well, 3K flash just ain't a gonna be good enough. So, at least there are signs of life from the beast FINALLY.

You're not talking about shifting that 502 at 7800 are you?

Nah, we decided to drop the cam range down to 7200 so depending on where peak is, I'll shift a couple of hundred over that. The shop is sure the motor could handle 7500 easily but I think 7K is probably going to be my shift point. If I went in with H beams..., that might change.

It's not so much the bottom end as the valvetrain. Best have some light, strong parts up there.

I agree, BBCs have BIG valve train parts...all I could get out of my 402 was 7500 before things started floating, and I had some pretty good springs. You putting in a roller?
