Antifreeze level drops
I keep running low on antifreeze. I keep toping it off, thinking maybe its working air out (put a "new" radiator in not too long ago). Anyways, after running it to full operating temp while filling, continuing to run, etc. and topping it off, its still loosing antifreeze. It's not leaking any outside of the engine that I can see. No drops anywhere.
So that leaves with me two options I can see. 1 is the tranny cooler (inside radiator) is leaking antifreeze into the tranny, but I would think I would be seeing tranny fluid in the radiator as well, so I don't think this is it. The other option is head gasket leaking, and its going into the oil pan. The thing is I can't see any symptoms of this. No overheating or ill effects.
Anything else I'm overlooking.
I was thinking I'd do a compression check to see if that revealed anything. What else can I check?
Thanks
Derek
I woiuld think you'd see in the tranny fluid on the dipstick if it's leaking into the tranny cooler part of the radiator.
Quite often it will be your water pump leaking out the back (drain hole that indicates the bearings & seals are gone) and you won't notice it until you pressurize the radiator & then the water will start dripping down the front of the motor. Same with a pin-hole in a hose. It vaporizes while driving so you don't see it.....
