Default Winter mod work.

With race season ending shortly, its time to be thinking about how to make your car faster (or how to make it legal so you can make it faster in some people's cases ) So what are your plans for the winter?

My plans are to beef up the drivetrain on the corvette. The truck will be out of commission for the next year or so starting in the spring for a frame off restoration, so I'll have to race the vette (oh darn).

Anyways I'm planning on doing a clutch, DTE diff brace, hardened output shaft, and getting some slicks. No point of adding more power if I can't get it to the ground or the car won't take it.

Nothing much planned for the winter. Most of my plans involve a truck and trailer. Once that is done I might figure out how to get 300Lbs out of my car

I'm sure if you ditched that old iron block and got with the new revolution called "Aluminum" you'd save that much weight. Its no wonder your car is slow....no LS1!

lol My whole winter is fighting with the guys to come over to help finish putting my engine together & putting it in the car. Then getting new mega Squirt system in my car as well & getting my car running for next season.

Then Hopefully get the engine broke in & ready for race season.

Funny, I erased last winter's mod list from my white board & started writing down this year's list yesterday. I won't be doing anything radical this year, just tweaking in what I have to see if I can run a 10.0, adding some coolers so I can go to an open road race if I get the chance, and making it pretty for the Seattle Roadster Show.

I have some gauges to get and mount (fuel pressure, nitrous pressure) and I have my wideband to hook up still. That and some fine tuning is all I have planned for this winter.

I have some other projects too, like putting the system that WAS in the Vette in Cindy's car..........crap like that!

I plan on putting bigger jets in and actually using my 3rd stage, that is if my sack grows a little this winter. Actually a new motor is in the back of my mind, or at least a forged bottom, but who knows for sure at this point.

Acattack1, doing your running gear your self? If so, I would think about having Ellis or Turbo tech do it. Trust me, it's not an easy job, and many make mistakes (I did on one reinstall, and the shop did on one reinstall). I have had my entire running gear out about 5 times and I will never do it again, and I am a mechanic for a living. You really need a lot of special tools and a lift would be/is wonderfull. However, it can save you a lot of $$ if you do it yourself. Good luck though, the mods are needed for going fast.

My plans for the Formula are a full exhaust & catback, LS6 intake, and a cam... Planning on changing over to the '99-up knock sensor setup, also, I think that's where a lot of my inconsistency issues are coming from. Been reading a lot of threads about how the '98 style can cause a lot of false-knock issues, and that seems to be where it's coming from.

GTO might get a new shifter...

WS6... just gonna get it running. No other plans with it.

Hmm, let's see......remove most of the mods and sell car. Buy something else.

Yup, that sounds like a good winter project to me.

My goal for next year is to run a 10.000 on street tires. Thats about it. I think I need about 30 hp more and a good set of 17 X 11" rubber. I have a feeling that a small shot of Nitrous may be the next mod, Nice to get out of the hole untill the boost is kicked in.

Well the car I tricked myself into buying because it is done is turning out to be anything but. I was hoping to send the shortblock out for a 4.00 crank mod but it looks like I need to this stuff first so maybe next year.

1. Finish brake setup so I can run my Fikse's.
2. Install Textrilla clutch (anybody want a VERY low mile Spec III setup?)
3. Dyno tune (hopefully done tomorrow)
4. Install kooks ORP
5. Either get some TA seats, Corbeau's something that can prevent my head from hitting the roll bar in an accident or at least lessen the chance\damage. If not seriously consider selling custom bolt in chromolly 6 pt bar with swing outs and 5 pt sparco harness's.
6. Get the rear bumper and mirrors painted.
7. Pick up a set of slicks and skinny's

I have this list on a pad and have to hide it from the wife

My first priority this winter is to finish paying the car off. Once that is done I'll try to scrape up enough $ to do long tube headers. That should get me into the low 13's. I have to keep the cost of power mods down so I have $ for tires/lapping.

Thumbs up

School is keeping me pretty busy, but I'd like to get this done over the winter:

1. Purchase new forged rod/piston combo
2. Machine the newly acquired LS1 block and crank
3. Assemble shortblock
4. Acquire misc. external LS1 engine bits like; valve covers, coils, valley pan etc..
5. Purchase/install tubular K-member
6. Purchase some LSx heads (undecided)
7. Remove ABS system from chassis

*breath*
- finish making coilovers
- fabricating aluminum intake manifold with velocity stacks and LS1 throttle body
- getting tubular SS turbo header made
- full roll cage fabricated
- assemble engine with forged crank, forged custom rods, forged custom pistons, oil squirters
- fabricate dry sump setup
- make nice shock-tower engine mounts
- 4" downpipe and 3" exhaust
- 24x18x4" FMIC
- camber plates
- Wilwood 6-piston front 4-piston rear
- replace most bushings in suspension with rod-ends
- aluminum trailing arms, panhard bar
- bigger sway bars
- Autometer Pro-Comp gauges (everything)
- LS1 T56, modify bellhousing, Tilton 3-plate 7.25" clutch
- aluminum driveshaft
- aluminum bellypans (Boeing surplus!)

So I'm thinking my winter mod list may last until the next winter. But these are the things I have written down that I am going to do.
