Default Milage on odometer VS scantool

Anyone have a clue why my milage on the odo reads about 76k yet on my scantool it shows a reading of about 43k?

I thought the odo reading was tied into the pcm? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Nope. The Odo is stored in the gauge cluster. You can swap it out with a cluster from a car with 20k on it and presto. Now your car has 20k on it.

Does anyone know if there's a vin sticker either on the cluster or pcm? I guess what i'm trying to figure out is which one was changed or tampered with.

THanks.
