Default Try Nitrous or go Cam first?

Just as the title says, what would everyone recommend. I am looking at purchasing some boltons in the next month and looking at what the next step would be for the TA. I would love to try the laughing gas because I have never been in a car that has used it before and would love to see the kick it can produce.

Looking over pricing for some of the basic stuff, a decent cam and install (self) is going to run 1 - 1.5k unless I am missing something and the juice for a bolt on kit from what I have seen will go for 800 + the fillups.

If the nitrous is what I should go with, what kit would you all suggest? I am not looking to set any records or anything, looking to sit in the low 12's with a basic stock setup in the TA.

Ellis or Robert, any input? Would I need to drive the car over to the west side of the state and leave it with you Ellis to have you set it up or is it something I could install myself without much tuning?

Car is a 01 M6 TA if anyone remembers, I don't post much and I am to stupid to figure out a sig!

Sorry I looked over the Nitro section and outside of the FAQ it really doesn't answer that, I could be looking in the wrong place though.

just say no to drugs.

I'm not a fan of nitrous, so if it were me I'd go with the cam. That way the power is always there.

That is what I was thinking.

Shooting for 400 WHP in the near future before I look at going a FI route but have heard of people being disappointed with the cam changing the car too much. I guess if I don't like it I could always put the stock cam back in right?

Do both, but I did N20 first worth it my IMO.
I have a 228 230 .571 .592 112 LSA Cam, it is nice but I love my N20, don't be a sissy. Crack is good.

Only thing in the back of my mind I worry about is the rear end blowing up. Highest I have taken off is from 2.5k and it seemed to hold up ok. Don't plan on using slicks either, at least not until the future. I figure with something close to 400 HP I should be somewhat safe... Right?

M6 or A4.
I have broke no less than 6 10 bolts in three different M6 F-bodies and 2 Moser 12 in the WS6.
This 10 bolt seems to be holding up well, but I have a spare.

EDIT: I see it is an M6 just go easy on it. My shot comes on at about 3000 RPM and goes off at 6000 RPM.

I run, you will laugh
12.80s at about 115 mph...

Cam first.

The power is always there and you can always add n2o later if you want more.

Stock my best is 13.3 @ 108 with bald tires. I haven't faired any better this year, I spin hard off the line. Would like to get close to a 13 flat but think I will just give in and do some bolt-ons and shoot for high 12's. Clutch seems to be holding up real good for the amount of passes I have made with it and how I drive it, has me curious as to what kind it is, doubt with 70k on the car now it is a stock one, with the way I abuse it, I would think it would show some slippage but seems to be holding up pretty well.

It could be the stock clutch. I raced last year in my vette with the stock 85k mile LS1 clutch.....and you have the better LS6 clutch.

Also, I made a lot of passes in my 01 Formula M6 on the stock LS6 clutch without issues.

I am getting nitrous first because I currently DD my car and don't need power all the time.

I will save the headache of valve springs and such for when my car is garaged.

If it was an LS1 clutch, it would have spun the whole length of the track

Sounds like I should factor in a new clutch at the same time!

Any suggestions? I have been lurking in the M6 section and have been seeing problems with the Spec 3 not lasting. Have heard ups and downs of the LS7.

I did see one clutch once that was 2k or so! Sure that could get me by!

Well if you plan on cam AND nitrous I would not get the LS7.

I recommend Textralia because they have great customer service, but there are plenty of options.

for the track, I'd avoid the LS7....I chose the Textralia and it held up to 15 5000+ RPM launches last weekend without a sweat.

I'd go cam, with the cam Bill put in the WS6 before I bought it, headers, K&N lid, tune I ran a 12.55 @ 113mph on street tires w/ a 10-bolt.

Call George at Turbo Tech, he'll get you set up with a clutch...it's the one I'm gonna go with later on here...and to answer the original question, I'd go cam too, cause it just sounds cooler...I had a mild 224/228 Comp cam in mine for a while and it went a best of 11.94 @ just under 115mph. Of course, with just bolt-ons my car was running 113mph, so it picked me up about 2 mph cause I had added weight to the car too, so I'd say a solid 2mph gain.
