Default Autopsy results

Thanks Ellis for taking some time out of your day to look at my DOA transmission.

So the autopsy results indicated death by torque. The output shaft was snapped completely in two. In its death throws, the output shaft also took the very expensive forward 5 gear planetary set and the Reaction shaft.

So now comes the delima, it comes down to this:

GM 5 gear planet set $150
Reaction shaft $110
Hardened output shaft $600.00 (300M)
and I am sure there is gonna be some Misc $$$

So basically $900 to rebuild the 4L60e and then worry about it living at 800+ hp or do I go Turbo 400?

I think I can get a Th400 setup the way I want it for $1800.

I'd like a trans brake, 2.75 first gear and built with enough strength to handle the power.

As far as the converter goes, I am sure I could sell/trade my way to a good converter for the 400 for not too much extra $$$. I already have a drive shaft that may work for the th400 and 9". I would need a new shifter... But I think I could do the th400 for about $2300 ish.

So $2300 and never worry about the tranny but loose O/D or $900 and walk around with glass slippers...and keep the O/D, and Automatic shifts.

Man Being fast is expensive!

Ryan K.

Well Ryan'sSS was running 4.10 gears... I wouldn't even do that with a OD tranny.

If it was me, I would opt for the turbo 400. Then wheel standing launches on a reg basis could be had. If I don't watch it, I'll be in the same boat, so I'll be taking it easy.

Break out the JB Weld, just be sure it's the heavy-duty stuff!

I had similar problem with a 5.0 . Much less power than you, but I kept busting the Automatic OD tranny and it's about 2K a pop to replace it. Tried 4 different companies before getting one that held. One mail order, and 3 different "performance" builders. That almost made me bankrupt and wanna get a new hobby!

I would try with HD parts once for the sake of keeping OD.

Is a 4L80-E physically too large to use ? Are they not capable of doing what you want ?

I wouldn't baby around with the 4L60E. So either TH400 or 4L80E if it will fit.

I would save your money on the 2.75 first gear for a turbo car. The 4l80 will also fit but he has a 98 and the 98 pcm can't control the tranny. Would have to go with an aftermarket controller or a manual valve body, and nobody makes a brake for the 4l80 from what I have seen.

I would go Th400.

Holy cow dude, nice breakage.
Hey big poo runs a TH350 with 4.10s...Oh wait we are not talking trucks.
Why not a 4L80E? Too much money?
I would say the 400 is your best bet man! I hate breaking ****.
I don't even go out enough anymore to break.

Damn Ryan, that's impressive! And I thought Ellis & I were looking at an add for a hardened unit a couple weeks ago for under $400. Ellis?
