CTSV-Magnacharger problems
A couple weeks ago my blown-V developed a nasty metallic buzzing/fluttering sound coming from the rear of the engine in the immediate location of the supercharger. The sound is present when accelerating and decelerating. It is MUCH louder when letting off the throttle at 4000+rpms and coasting. After consulting my install shop and some forums, we determined that the blower had bad bearings and needed to be rebuilt. Magnuson had a VERY quick turnaround on the rebuild and the shop got it back quick. Cost to me so far: $0. Magnuson picked up the entire tab, including shipping. To all those considering a Maggie, definitely bone up and get the extended warranty. It costs very little for alot of insurance!
Anyway, they said they fired up the car and the Maggie was working great. The problem, however, is that the damn metallic "pissed off bees" sound is still there. Apparently, Maggie needed rebuilding anyway but the sound that made me bring the car into the shop is still there...and still undiagnosed. So does anyone have any ideas as to what to check next? I wish I had a sound clip. They put scopes on the car to try and find the source of the sound and it still seems to be coming from the general area of the Maggie. Ugh!
Thanks!
Done anything maintenance wise to the car recently? Spark plugs or wires or something? Usually when a bearing goes on the eaton blowers it sounds like a engine bearing almost. The blower on my GP was starting to go and would make a bit of a knocking when I would hit boost, tore it off and the rotors have some nice little dings in them from them rubbing.
I would look for something else, if it is a buzzing would look somewhere along the clutch area. Have heard of flywheels and flexplates making noises when they are cracked only when revved up.
Anyone want to guess what was the cause?
Ok, a small section of the header gasket blew out. Car was down for almost 3 weeks for a bad header gasket. Ugh.
