Default Local Engine Builders

I am looking for a reputable machine shop in western Washington who has experience with LS1’s. I live in Olympia and don’t want to travel beyond Portland or Seattle. Also, if you have any shops that I should avoid please PM that information. My plans are to purchase the rotating assembly for a 383, I need them to freshen up the block and assemble the stroker assembly.
Thanks!

Default Back from the dead!

I know this is an older thread, but i'm in search of the same answer! Will need my 2001 LS1 worked on very soon and need a good machine shop! Recommendations?

Don't really want to go the $3500 short block route since i'm pretty sure there's a hole in my #3 piston but everything else is good. I guess we'll see once i open it up.

I'm hoping to get away with just buying: pistons, rods, head gaskets, pushrods (insurance), bearings, honing and balancing!

Stay away from Britco. Any machine shop that can't set rod/main bearing tolerances within. 006" is ******* crap. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I wouldn't let Britco rebuild a lawnmower engine.

Somers Machine in Vancouver handles all my machining and flow bench needs.

I doubt you will find anyone else to do it for you so you'll just have to stroke it yourself.

IIRC, Nutter Racing built all of Greg Biffle's engines on his way up the ladder into NASCAR? At any rate, NRE has been around for a long time and has built MANY winning engines on the national level.

Nutter is also doing more and more with the LS engines, ran into him at a swap meet a year ago and chatted for a while. Frankly I'd take Nutter over anyone in the area in a heart beat.

I spent some time on the phone with Nutter and he has been doing a lot with LS motors. Sounds like a great place!

I've talked to AC (Nutter) quite a few times, been to his shop, even bought my FAST 4bbl throttle body from him. He's knowledgeable and I have respect for the guy.
