GMHTP is doing another shootout and looking for LS1s
And IF that car wasn't a race car I STILL couldn't race it due to my use of company insurance. My other LS1s aren't race cars by any stretch of the imagination but they ARE company insured. So, if I wanted I couldn't bring them either. But, if I wasn't using company insurance I could call the 9 second car a "street car" and run it. See my point? My race car being company insured has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that it's a race car. It's just the kind of insurance that I happen to use with ALL of my vehicles. The whole "no company insurance thing" is a silly way to try to keep out race cars. It simply DOESN'T WORK to that end but it potentially could keep a real street car from being able to play.
Whew! Off my soapbox! Ya'll have a good race! I might come watch and hang out anyway.
Also, is the db-level only checked during the burnout, i.e., if it is less than 94 db on the burnout but greater at launch (higher rpm's), is that legal? Thanks. Dave
And truth be told...I bet if you have or had a true street car with company insurance, you could likely get in anyways. Just a bit of explaining is all that would likely be necessary.
No soapbox for me!
I just would want to come and play more so than trying to win a certain class. I'm sure a lot of us are that way but do not want to get all the way out there only to get told to hit the road.
The noise rule is not mine, it is the track's. (Thanks Bob for backing me up on this.)
Since we trade track rentals for ad space, it's not viable to run this deal at another track.
However...
...if someone will volunteer to rent a 1/4-mile track for the entire day (and the following day as a rain-out date too), and pay our staff's travel expenses, we would consider moving the invitational shootout. I hear Chicagoland and Mid-Michigan are pretty nice that time of year, but Memphis and St. Louis are cool too ('cause we can road race...)
This is an invitational deal, not an open race. We will take all the applicants in our file--most likely sometime in April or May--and call them up for the invite. We will invite just the driver/owner and one crew member. Unfortunately, we can't make any exceptions to this because it's a closed rental and the track will not allow a huge herd of folks inside.
Tony, C'mon dude! Road trip! You're practically a shoo-in (pending the invite of course). We had LT1 guys with less cash make that trip last year. Just think of it as Hot Rod Power Tour or Car Craft RSE, only cooler!
And a shout out to Pro Stock John--Thanks for hooking me up with Izzo! I'm really pumped.
Ohh, forgot. I'm not arrogant, just ask me!
On dB, please refer to E-town's testing procedure for specifics, as we will be doing the same. We understand variations in track configurations can have an impact on dB readings. We'll fall back on full rear exiting exhaust if someone is one or two dB over. Open Borlas will need to be capped (unless they're quiet enough).
Usually, the burnout is by far the loudest part, so that's when you need to measure most carefully. If you want to drive all the way without testing, that's okay, but you obviously won't have a high level of confidence and could get kicked. $35 on a dB meter is a small price for peace of mind.

Any idea on what day of the week it will fall on?

Hey Jim! Thanks for letting us know about this. Seems like everyone goes through this rule bashing thing everytime an event comes up. Personally, I am just happy people are taking the time to create events that give us the opportunity to race and have some fun.
I'm gonna have to get some pictures of my car and send my info. in.
Anyone have any idea how I can actually get my car to look Purple in pictures??? I don't think pictures do the car justice. All the 35mm pictures I have make the car look blue. I think the one in my sig is pretty good, but that one is digital.

The idea behind holding ours on a Thursday this year was that we then had Friday as a rain date.
Wipers are not that big a deal, but it did rain at the end of our last shootout....actually it was more like a monsoon. On insurance, that specific car with VIN needs to be stated on the policy, regardless of type. A business coverage is okay as long as the specific vehicle in question is named by VIN.

With a bottom-exiting exhaust, if the meter is up in the air, say 4 ft in someone's hand or on a stand, it may mean a lot vs. being on the ground.
So, for the rules...meet the db level, insurance requirements, and safety rules, and you can play.

Guys, GMHTP's LT1 shootout had similar rules so these need to be in parallel.
Pris, let me know if I can help in anyway I'd like to see Chitown get represented.
On that note, I am willing to get my car to fit these rules too.
pris, theres some pictures of your car here: http://j7.ee.pitt.edu/pictures/pugsfest/
Nobody's complained about the free pizza yet. There's got to be someone out there that would rather have subs for lunch
