Would this idea work to fix deep scratches? So I have a couple deeper scratches on my car that I know wont buff out because they are down to the primer. I know from past experience that GM paint pens don’t match well with my car either so I have an idea.
I have an old V6 firebird hatch lying around that’s pretty much junk but it’s the same color as my car, pewter metallic. So I was thinking about taking an electric sander to it and taking the clear coat down to the paint and then collecting the pewter paint dust. What would happen if I mixed the fine dust with a little clear coat and then tried to fill in my scratches with that? I think the color would pretty much be dead on. Anyone tried anything like this before?

Thats a crazy idea that I have never even thought of doing! It could work but probably wouldnt match well. What I do is get a little basecoat and dab it in the crack and then let it dry and dab a little clear on top. Wait about a day and sand it with 1200 with a block then 2000 real quick and buff it out.
