Did you spray paint that? did you wet sand the clear coat?
I wouldn't go over 400 grit. 800 I think would get it too slick for good adhesion. Of course IMHO.

Yeh, stick with 400, 600 max. Bulldog is a great adhesion promoter. I get it in 1 quart bottles to use sometimes.

Srry guys, explanation. sanded intake with 400, spray on glue, spray on primer, wetsand 800, primer, paint, clear. in that order.

Got Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter. "Ideal for Automotive Plastics"

anybody tried it? I got it at Advance Autoparts, hadnt had a chance to check Vatozone or O'Really, or Napa yada yada yada. They didnt have Bulldog, neither did walmart

Duplicpolor works well too. I have a couple cans of it as well. Do just like you said, but use 400 instead of 800. Just throw the 800 on the shelf.

You can build up the primer then wetsand. Repeat primer/wetsand untill you are satisfied with the finish. Then do your paint/clear.

If somethin happens with the paint, ie; run or drip, stop. Fix the imperfection with 400. Then reapply paint. Same goes for clear. If you get an imperfection, stop. Let it dry, then fix imperfection. Then continue with spraying.

thats affirmative. Just out of curiosity, why ditch the 800? it was like 3 dollars so im not worried but now youve got my curiosity. will the paint and clear take up the rest( beyond 400 )? Need to buy cleaner too. if you have a recomendation im all ears. or eyes in this case.

Imo it's just to smooth. The paint will cover 400 just fine. Save the 800 for some aluminum polishing or something. Try it in on your t-body. Then rub in some alum-polish. You'll see the difference. You can go 800-1000-1200-1500, etc. Next you'll start wanting to polish everything.

Lol, not a bad Idea. Polishing everything should keep me busy for a while anyway. I was lookin at some of the paints at walmart and the primers said to just wash with soap and water, rinse and dry. think that'll do? I know brake cleaner has a lot of water in it and i def dont want anything oil based, not for cleaner anyway. Ima hit up the auto parts store for paint and clear, the stuff i saw tonight didnt say a word about temperatures or automotive applications so i left em there

gave it 4 coats of high gloss black this morning, now im kinda glad i preped it so well lol. gotta sand 1 run and the overspray areas then clear. I used a whole can of duplicolor engine enamel, it looks great. think im going to use the 800 grit to sand the run and the 400 for the overspray.

any tips on sprayin the clear? Its duplicolor engine enamel clear, im a little worried about the overspray in the areas around the bolt posts and fuel rail mounting posts
