Default Black Plastic Question

So, I got a black plastic grill off ebay for my 97 suburban, sorry not f-bod just don't know where to ask, and it has very minor scuffs and will need clear coat to look right anyway.

My question is what grit should i use so when cleared it will look glossy?

I don't intend to paint it I want it black with clear. I just need to make the scuffs go away. Should I use a fine scotch bright pad to give the clear something to stick to?

Are they something that will kinda melt away with a light touch from a torch?

i don't think i even wanna try that! However.
they aren't very serious at all you notice them from the side when the glare hits it

I do need to scuff this thing up before I put clear on it right? it's not gonna stick to just plastic is it?

Im fairly sure that the grille is not bare plastic, it most likely has a primer on it, and is ready for paint, and clear. If it was me I would scuff it with 800 grit, or grey scotch brite and paint it black, then clear it.

if it is bare plastic you may want to look in to a sprayable plastic adhesion promoter. otherwise you may end up with peeling isues later on.
