candy Green
candy Green Had a thought the other day and was curious if it would be possible to take my black trans am and scuff it apply a candy green and then clear or would I have to scuff it down prime it, lay a new black base coat then the several layers of candy and then clear?
If your paint is ok right now you can just scuff it up and throw whatever base you want and reclear. Candy green over black will be hard to see any real difference. If you want a hint of green you need to go with a Dark charcoal base then throw the Candy green over it.

Black is a weird color. Since it is the absence of color it is hard to really have anything where it is only there when the sun hits it. When you put black down it really takes the color and makes it pop hard. But go to your local paint jober that sells House of Kolor and look at their books and see what you like.

You can try a test sample to see what it looks like but candy is made to be sprayed over a high metalic color such as silver or gold. Candy colors have very little pigment so it will probably be very hard to see. Another warning against candy paint is since they have to little pigment the sun will bleed them out causeing the candy to fade out and become back to the original base. May not be a big deal over black if it's hard to see anyways.

what you want to do is scuff your car up and spray more black paint with a green pearl thats how you will get the effect your looking for because candy paint isnt exactly cheap and spraying green candy will most likely cover the black

I did this on my old LT1 Formula with flames. I added a bit of House of Color micro flake, and tipped the ends with a mint green first, but most of the flames are just candy green over black. The flames are very subtle in the shade and at night with the pinstriping sticking out the most, but in the sun, well....... Here is a pic.
