I'm going to be doing one if not both of my Camaros in a flat color. It'll be a little different though. I think it looks pretty good. What color was it before?

just wondering. Is it harder for cops to radar your car with nothing to reflect back? Like if you took care of those headlights and sidemarkers with something non-reflective, can you be stealthy for some good distance at least?

Radar bounces off a solid object, whether it's shiny or not doesn't matter.

I went to a car show over the weekend and there was one car out of about 100 that was matte black. I was looking at other hot looking cars in the area of the matte black car and not one person stopped to look at it. Plus I heard quite a few comments on how terrible it looked. Anyone who says a matted black car looks good has no taste at all when it comes to cars.

It doesn't affect radar, but it might help with a laser. Years ago when lasers were just starting to hit the streets in cop cars, Car & Driver did a test with a laser gun measuring how far away the laser detected a white car and a black car. It always picked up the white car much further away. They then started blacking out everthing on the black car...chrome trim, headlights, etc. With each thing they blacked out, the car got closer before the laser detected it. They finally reached a point where the car actually made a pass without being detected by the laser. Of course that was 15+ years ago. I am sure the laser guns have improved since then.

leave the wheels and for the love of god do not put c5 z06 wheels on it

it looks good now but it will look worse in a couple months...mine looked amazing when first shot but now its flattening and turning gray...but it beats pealing clear and rust and only cost $200 to do

I have got more compliments on the satin black than I did when it was 96 corvette gran sport blue with white stripes...I miss the shiny paint and polishing it, but the car does look much meaner and down to business now...also easy to take care of and doesn't show dirt suprisingly

Thunderstruck, if I remember correctly, you used either a primer or a single-stage paint, right? I ask because you mention it starting to get flat and gray. I am leaning towards this color for mine but was going to use a base coat with flattened clear.

I can tell you what I have learned about it. I took the old bumper from my car and let the paint shop spray it with Dupont base and pre-flattened satin clear and have been letting it sit outside the last few weeks to experiment with it. It does not show light scratches nearly as easily as gloss black. You can put wax on it and it makes the black a little darker and shinier, but don't use anything with an abrasive in it or use a buffer as that will shine up the clear coat more. But non-abrasive waxes give it extra protection and shine (I used Zaino Z2). When it rains and dries with water spots, a wet rag gets them off. No problems with fingerprints sticking to it like with flat and single-stage paints. It should have the same longevity and protection as gloss as it is still clear coat. It doesn't scratch as easily as gloss, but if it does get scratch you can't buff it out unless you buff the whole car to match as the buffing will shine up the clear permanently. But the painter told me it was easy to reshoot a single panel without having to worry about blending like you do with gloss. Overall it seems like less work to keep sharp, as opposed to what you hear about single stage paints and primers.
