How is Mako's work?
First off im not sure if thats how you spell it. But i plan on buying a ram air hood and it comes painted white and i thought i could take the hood to them and have them match it red. But ive never had work done by them. I was wondering if anyone on here did.

I think it's a little bit of everything. I've seen people that had work done thru them, and within a year, the paint look like garbage. They MIGHT be ok for small work, but not what you're looking for.

I did wet sand it with 400grit and removed parts like the taillights, door handles, locks, wing, and side skirts. Everything else was done by them for $600 with a five year guarantee against peeling or color change. They did screw up the first time though, but fixed it in the end; I also had my 1996 z28 painted by them with the same result, but they did that car correctly the first time.

The only thing Maaco is good for is sponsoring a Shitty Bowl Game!!!! Don't waste your money on their paint jobs as you'll spend more money later getting it fixed by a reputable painter/shop.

Lets put it this way...
Macco is a fast food place, its quick/cheap but not necessarily best for you.
Winter maybe a good time to get a car painted IMO since most shops are busy in the spring/summer time since everyone wants a nice shiny car for the season.
If you pick a local shop that doesn't believe in get em in/out ASAP! then the workers are more diligent in getting the best result, even if someone isn't cracking the whip for quality control.
Macco is basically making money on doing more cars in less time so their workman ship and quality isn't the best. So point is winter maybe slow for local shops, even macco. Just like everything else to cover you, do a lil research for the shop's reputation of what kind of work they turn out.
Lott of people on this site had good results if they done the prep work themselves but got it painted at macco, since thats the most labor...a shop that does quick work would skimp on labor hours and prep materials.

Depends what you want.
If you want a perfect factory paint job..your going to pay for it and Maaco isnt going to do that.
If you want your car painted to freshen its appearance and are low on money, they can do decent work.
You have to go in with the correct expectations. Most of these idiots think they are going to pay 500 bucks and get some flawless perfect paint job....riiiiiight. These people then label Maaco as crap when Maaco did exactly what they advertise: fast paint jobs.
Figure out what your Needs/Wants are and then go from there. The better the paint job, the more it cost.

A LONG time ago, when I was in school and short on money, I had MAACO paint my car, but I did ALL of the prep work, including removing all of the trim and even some of the taping (got strange looks driving it to the paint shop). For the amount I paid, it came out pretty good and lasted a few years until the car started rusting from the inside out, LOL. On the other hand, an older couple was having their Caddy painted at the same time and I'll never forget the look on their face when they saw how f-d up the car came out.
The biggest problem is that most people expect MAACO and other cheap painters to give them a $5000 paint job for $500. If you keep it simple - no metallic, especially silver, no stripes, no color change, and doing prep work yourself, it probably will be okay.

Maaco has different options. They have paint jobs that an oat upwards of 3,000$. The main reason yiu get peeling fading etc is because of the cheap paint they use mixed with no prep, on the cheap jobs.
They do have people that know exactly what thy are doing.
With that said, if it were me I would find a reputable well known shop to do. I'm paying 6k to have mine painted when it is time. That is engine bay and all though and will look flawless. Worth it imo.
