My black vert needs paint badly. I would like to keep the car black. And, I've heard that custom black paint can be made that has different colors added. I'm open to ideas. The car would look awesome with new paint and stripped and polished wheels. Any ideas for custom paint (ie. Black with red metallic flakes, etc.)?

You could always go to an automotive paint shop and check out all the different colors from different brands. I've seen people describe what they want, and it turn out not exactly as they hoped for.

Maybe I can add silver painted side marker lights too! LolOriginally Posted by crazyelf

I'm considering Kandy red over platinum flakes on a black base. But, I can't imagine what it would cost to have done in South Florida! I believe the platinum flakes reflect the red in the sunlight, while maintaining the aggresive dark black look. Any guesses on the cost for this type of paint job?

Kandy paint job will cost you a lot,if someone says thell do it for less then 5 grand you better know their work or you may get a hack job,my guess 8-10 grand for a custom kandy paint job at a pro shop
I was figuring on AT LEAST 5 grand. And, the quality of the work is so operator dependent with black paint. I will definitely look at some of the black cars that the shop has painted. I think the Kandy paint job will be worth every penny of the 5-10 grand if it is done right.

Oh snap! Good idea lol. My friend and I did my paint, but his shop manager said he would have charged me 7-8k for it. So I'm very glad I'm good friends with a painter!Originally Posted by man2004

eassiest thing to do is find a color on a car you like and get the paint code...if i ever repainted a black car it would be honda/acura nighhawk black pearl...basically black with blue pearl in it, (aka "blue flake") or goto a shop and look through their book of colors, i use sikkons and we can make around 500,000 colors. once you find a color you like have them do a spray out of the color, then check out the face tone and flip tone as well as the color in the shade and sun, it all makes a difference
I looked at the Nighthawk Black Pearl (NHBP, Honda/Acura paint code B-92P) and it is beautiful. I also read some discussions on a Civic forum regarding NHBP paint vs. Crystal Black Pearl (CBP). The members discussed the differences between NHBP and CBP. NHBP has blue flakes (as mentioned by mhorn0817) and CBP has a smaller density of flakes (mostly silver) so it is almost pure black. The members also mentioned that there are subtle differences in "new" NHBP (2009 - present) and "old" NHBP (pre-2009). The NHBP looks amazing in the sun and shade.

nothing beats a nice deep shine black. Remember, all that fancy pansy additive BS will make it harder to do touch-ups in the future...

Honda made a black with a red pearl also, don't know the paint code but it's an older color,b92p looks alright when it's keep up,but after a while it just looks like straight black,as long as you keep it clean n waxed should stay lookin good though.

Well, now we have a mystery. I found Nighthawk Black pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Flamenco Black Pearl (aka Starlight Black Pearl), and Granada Black Pearl.Originally Posted by SinisterZ28

Granada Black Pearl is black w/gold metallic flake.
Flamenco Black Pearl is black w/a silver metallic flake
Nighthawk Black Pearl is black w/blue metallic flake
Crystal Black Pearl is black w/ a little silver metallic flake (almost pure black).
But, I did not find Black with red metallic flake.
I found one thread from a Honda forum that features Flint Black Metallic as Black with red flakes.

U could go to the paint store n get them to mix some red pearls in with a clear binder(like a clear base) and put that over your black, and it would stand out better than a factory color, just get them to write down witch pearls n how much they used in the binder ie 10 oz of binder to 1 oz of ruby pearls.it would b like a black tri-coat.
