You can try some thinner on a rag n gently rub off, then take a small amount of compound, you can try just some compound first, cause you need to be easy with the thinner cause it can soften paint, usually not on factory paint but more so if it's been painted so be easy with it

Try soap and water. I used to use sharpie marker to color in a scratch on my car. After four or five washes it would come off. Then I had to reaply.

Try a dry-erase marker over it (test a small portion first), or a pencil eraser.

Agreed. I use those two methods on pretty much any surface that has permanent marker that needs to be removed fully or at least mostly.

Definitely don't use thinner...I'd try a claybar first cause it would be completely safe. If that doesn't work try rubbing alcohol like others said. Friggin kids, who writes on someone's car with a sharpie?

Umm, insurance company might do a pretty good job at removing it.

What about those eraser wheels that you can use to take off glue left behind from factory emblems? Would that works or would it just do more harm then good?

Wash with dawn soap on the affected spot. Clay bar with quick detailer as lube. Hand polish and then wax. Its what I would do.

Rubbing alcohol is hot enough to get rid of Sharpie but wont ruin your clear.

Those are moreso for removing pin stripe and adhesives. You run a chance of burning the panel if you try to remove the sharpie with that (at least on a plastic panel).

Acetone is the first thing I'd use followed up with a finishing compound to remove any haze/smearing if it's a dark color. Lighter colors you don't have to worry about it.
