For guys that have had their camaro's repainted....
How much did it cost you guys? I got quoted $53xx.xx
These guys do a great job, some of the best work i've ever seen.
My question is, does it really cost that much? thats painting with very very minor body work. like touching up a few dents and stuff.
This is just painting it back to the factory GM Black.
Please let me know, Thanks!

If it's a complete repaint w/ decent products that price isn't out of line.
Yes it can/does cost that much. Most people don't understand the amount of labor involved in doing an all over repaint.
Ask a lot of questions. A good shop will take the time to explain the process and why the cost is what it is. To get an idea look at andrewhlr's thread where he repainted his Trans Am. It will give you a good idea of what it takes to re paint a car.

God..... That's way to much.
In my area the most expensive paint job I seen. Looking like or better than factory was $2500-$3000
On a my 07 dodge charger. I thought that was WAY to much. And it's a way bigger car.

mines getting painted on Sept 1st. $5000 for labor and $1000 for materials. Whole car gets sprayed including jams, and my after market hood needs some major work to make it line up right.

There are so many variables to paint work. Its nothing like mechanical work. For instance there is only one way to bolt on a water pump.
You ask 10 different people on how to paint a car, you'll get 10 different answers.
Materials vary greatly too, as do labor rates depending on your area.
An average complete respray in my area goes for $6000-$8000 depending on the size of the car and the color, and that is for very very minimal body work. No jambs, underhood, etc.
The other thing with paint work, is everything looks great initially, if corners are cut you usually do not see the effects of them until later down the road, by that time its too late, there is no "fixing" crappy prep work.
As mentioned before you get what you pay for, it takes a lot of time to correctly respray a car

When I had my 97 repainted I paid $10,000 for a complete color change to som. That included some body work and touch up work when I get done with the thing. I wanted no Orange peel or **** in the paint and wanted quality paint used. This was through a buddy hook up with me disassembling the car.

Yeah it's really not. Most people just don't realize how much work it is. It's like anything else, if you know someone that does it you will probably get it done cheaper.
It's the same thing with working on the engines. There are AFR and Trick Flow heads then on the other side there are stock 243's or TSP ported factory heads. Just depends on what you can spend.

Sounds assonine to me. Its not a color change? right? Yeah you get what you pay for but your lookin at maybe $1000-$1200 for materials and the rest is labor. It'll be done in a day maybe 2. I would love to make $4g in a day.

I had started a thread at the same time as the OP did. I'm familiar with all the work it takes, cause my stepdad used to do it til he passed away. Now I'm looking for a new guy/gal for paint and touch ups for all my 5 vehicles. I was quoted 5500-7k by a few shops to repaint mine the same color with me buying the paint. I thought that was a bit high for the same color. I can understand a complete color change and wouldn't argue that price one bit, but I'm thinking half of the highest quote I received is definitely more in the ballpark. My car doesnt need much work. Just the rear quarters for dings like most cars, but most if not all of them can be PDR'd. Least that's what one shop told me. They were one of the lower priced shops and explained more and looked the car over thoroughly and said it wouldn't take just a few days to get it in and out since it's pretty straight. I dont mind paying, but I don't wanna get ripped off either you know?

I went to a shop asking how much it would be to install an aftermarket SS replica hood, and paint it, and paint the hoodscoop black. They told me they'd have to paint the hood and fenders to blend it, it was right at $1,100 for the hood and front side fenders, and the installation of the hood. I bet painting the whole car would be right at $2,000.

Of course I could be missing something, I haven't seen the car.
