Default Help with tail panel

Does anyone know the name of this panel or where ican get a new one? I checked gmparts direct but couldnt find it. Am i just going to have to get a used one? Its the panel on the bottom that is rusted out. Thanks.

Thats not a panel, its part of the "shell" The rust doesn't look too bad, grind away what you can and see whats left before you think about replacing.

I'm gonna blast it off next weekend probably, its rusted all the way through on the right under the bolts though. Thats the only really bad spot though. I assumed it was just a pannel because it looks like its welded on all the way around then puttied over.

the trans am is a 98 btw and it looks as if theres a panel for it in the catalog at gmpartsdirect but they dont sell it

Thats how shells are made, robots weld it all together then add seam sealer to it.

It would be cheaper to just cut out the infected parts and weld in new pieces.

Yeah that's what I planned on doing didnt know if I could find one new anywhere though or if I will have to find a used one

Used one for sure but you havent ground it down to show the cancer spots, take it down to bare metal then post pics.
