Default Looking at paint guns

I am going to try my hand at painting. I was looking at some paint guns. Will these be okay, or do I need something just a little better?http://www.harborfreight.com/profess...kit-94572.html

Also how much paint I will need to paint:
Hood
Spoiler
Fender

Thanks

The paint guns will be fine for you, practice with them before you start, a 1.4 tip is alittle big for metallics 1.3 is better but will be just fine. How much paint determines on what your doing, are you painting the whole hood, fender, spoiler. Or do you need to blend. Even if you need to blend the other fender and the door 2 pints unreduced will be plenty, but use a quality paint like spies hecker, dupont, sherwin Williams, or ppg.

I just need to paint just one fender, but thought about buying a Ultra Z hood and SS spoiler. I will be painting the whole fender.

Buy a quality gun. I have one of those and it sprayed like crap. I went and used a friends Sata Jet and I loved those guns. I am now looking for a Sata Jet.

I will look around some more. I just don't want to spend to much and only use the guns 1 or 2 times.

That sounds good to me, because I may or may not get the hood and spoiler just yet.

Just make sure your air compressor can keep up with the demand. That Harbor Freight one is 12cfm at 43psi. That's more than most little compressors put out.....

While we're on the subject, anyone care to give some input on the difference between the cheaper guns and the more expensive ones? Do the cheaper ones just tend to not spray as even, consistent, etc?

I'm basically just wondering if you can get the same end result, or close to it, just requires more prep to do so...

Those guns may spray basecoat pretty decent but they aren't going to spray clear very well. Those are good for primer or paints without alot of metallic. Devillbiss has a cheaper gun out that sprays real good for like $119 those harbor freight guns will dissapoint you hope that helps.

FWIW, at work we use a old model devilbiss, and "Kremlin" guns, the kremlin is new to me, but i have for personal use at home, a 60$ gravity fed Kobalt from lowes hardware, it sprays just as good as the ones we use at work. I paint everyday and dont see spending a crazy amount on a very simple job at home, practice on a cardboard box or piece of plywood to set you fan pattern and air and paint flow.

heres our devilbiss and kremlin guns

also painted my hood and my block and all the covers with my cheap *** kobalt gun lol

I use a cheap $40 husky brand gun from home depot for primer and base, and a $100 "husky pro" gun from home depot for clear exclusively, works great.

Did my engine bay tonight with bottom of the line PPG stuff, there aren't any runs/drips I jsut didn't smooth the engine bay before pain, just scuffed and sprayed:
