I used the Rustolium tint and it comes out good. Did my Firebird tails. However it wouldn't accept canned clear coat, made it ripple. They've been done for a long time so it might try a clear again as they don't hold a polish very well.

when i used gasoline, it cracked my corner in the Z.. so i had to buy a new set

Brake cleaner works good too

To the OP, it may be a known issue with these lights but to be honest, it looks as if they weren't cleaned properly before spraying...you mentioned soap/water so perhaps you didnt fully rinse all the soap.

I wasn't planning on using gasoline on them. That **** will remove paint, grease and pretty much anything else you can think of, and I don't want to run them to the point where they cannot be fixed. Thanks for letting me know what they did to yours. Hopefully other people will read it and not use it on plastics. As for glass, non painted metal, and other "non porous" (metal is porous) and unfinished surfaces I think it would work great.

I VHT'd the headlights on my 4 wheeler and they cracked bad like that. Still have the headlights. Just left them off the quad after that. (YFZ450)

I had the same problem when i used it on my reverse bar, but it worked fine when i tinted my taillights, blinkers, and headlights. I did the same process on the reverse bar as i did on everything else even did it twice, but it still cracked. Luckily a buddy owns a junk yard and gave me a new one.

Next time you try this clean them with dish soap and water like you did and dry them off. Then wipe it down with alcohol, that should leave the surface perfectly clean. If it cracks again its a reaction with the plastic headlight and the tint, or the tint just sucks.
