Default Prep before painting calipers/brackets?

Got the rattle cans I plan on doing my calipers with. Will be using Duplicolor metalcast. Comes with a base paint and then the blue paint Im doing the calipers in. The brackets are going to be done with a black engine enamel. My question is what to do to ensure the calipers are clean and ready for paint beforehand? I have done calipers before but just quick shitty jobs without even taking the calipers off the car. Would the engine enamel hold up on the brackets and would a clear engine paint be ok to go over decals? Thanks in advance

Hi-I powder coated mine, but i did my daughter's Mustang with a Vista blue paint kit specifically designed for calipers-I'll try to locate the name of company or u can "google" p.s. the kit comes with a brake cleaner spray

I would say get some high grit sand paper and some brake cleaner. I prepped mine that way with intentions of painting them but got distracted and never got around to actually doing them.

I used G2 Brake Caliper Paint Kit a year ago and it is still holding up. It comes with brake cleaner.

There you go-that was the kit I used-G2, Just make sure if your doing all 4 calipers you suspend the car on jack stands. Once you mix the cure with paint you only have a 4 hour window to complete the job or the paint in the can will harden. They came out nice but it really didn't match the factory OEM Vista blue like it stated on the box.
