What should I pay? (Paint work)
I just purchased an aftermarket fiberglass hood for my Formula. My car is Oem red, that still looks pretty good. What should I expect to pay to have the hood sprayed to match? I'd assume it will need very little prep work.....

depends what type of job you want. id say it should range between 400-600dollars for a nice job. figure at least min. 150 -200 in materials. sand prime, sealer, base ,clear, sand and buff. all adds up. been painting for 15 years. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies. The gentleman that builds the hoods has a good reputation for fitment, so hopefully people are right. I will be installing the hood myself. I will only need them to shoot/wet sand/buff.....

If it was me I would pre fit the hood to make sure it fit well and address any problems, then take it to get it painted. That being said red is the most expensive color. If the tech uses basecoat it will take one pint of color to paint both sides, with the under side only receiving a light coat. Even cheep basecoat red is close to 75.00 a pint. And obviously you have clear, labor and some materials. Hope that helps.
Oh, and as far as wet sand a buff goes you only need to do that if you have dirt specks in the paint. Color sanding and buffing the hood would make it smoother than your car is unless your car has already been color sanded and buffed.
