Need some buffing tips on compound and pads..... Hello, doing some practice paint and clear. I did alright with that, but I need to get tips on buffing the clear coat
1. Which buffing compound to use
2. What pads to use
I did buff the practice piece with final stage polishing compound with the correct pad and I got a bunch of :lines:, like white hair lines.. I've heard that, is it "talcum powder"??? will take care of these lines, is that true.

I've always been pretty happy with 3m products. Are the lines residue or swirl marks? Usually I follow up buffing with a light or dark color swirl mark remover. Sometimes I keep a old t shirt / cloth around to remove the excess compound it sounds like your describing. It's doesn't take huge amounts of compound to buff an area a glaze will do fine. Remember also that the compound is only cutting when it's wet.

3m rubbing compound with a wool pad, 3m machine polish with a black foam pad, 3m swirl remover with a blue foam pad is what I do. sounds like u have some sand scratches still in there, what grits did you use when sanding?

I would also say sanding marks, try 2000 wet sand followed by meguires 105 with the 3m black pad followed by meguires 205 and the 3m blue pad, then meguires show car glaze by hand and then wax
