Plasti-Dip on "chrome" mirrors
Plasti-Dip on "chrome" mirrors I just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee (winter ride) and it has "chromed" plastic outside mirrors. The Jeep is black, and I bought a can of the roll-on Plasti-Dip, to cover the chrome in black.
I cleaned the mirrors with alcohol, to remove any wax or oils that might be on them, and started rolling on the stuff. Long story short, the coverage was marginal, and the finish isn't all that great. Any tips on getting a smooth coating on this kind of surface?
I didn't want to spray them, because it would have involved either MASSIVE masking, or considerable disassembly of a potentially fragile assembly.

Well, it's been a while since I visited this topic....in fact, I completely forgot about it!
Anyway, I wound up abandoning the idea of trying to roll on the Plasti-Dip, and bought a spray can of it, and masked off half the side of the Jeep, and went to town. Turned out well....

Actually, my mirrors look just like yours......with respect to the lettering on the vehicle, the 'Jeep' on the hood, the 'Trail Rated' and 'Grand Cherokee' on the sides, I removed it, as I like the "discreet" look. The 'Jeep' badge on the tailgate fits into a "depression" that's molded into the filler panel, but the factory makes a black part, for one of the trim packages, and I got one of those. (my Jeep is black)
