Did you use urethane-based paint, and if so, did you use external source of air?

Yes it's base/clear. (2015 Nissan GTR blue paint code RAY). I used a 5hp air compressor

Sorry, I meant to ask about what breathing protection you used; like a respirator mask or full face mask with external air.

thanks. The only reason I've steered clear of using urethane based paints is that they contain isocyanates that some say aren't removed by 1/2 face masks, as well as eye and skin issues. I have met a guy that paints with urethane paints outdoors with just the 1/2 mask, with no problems. I wonder how many people do that?

I have been painting for a living sense 1997. I have had blue test chest x-rays and all by the comp I work for. I get respirator certified yearly. With a fit test. Chromate primer requires a full face.

Thanks for the response. I've finally gotten a spray gun for my 5 hp compressor and sprayed my guitar with lacquer using a 1/2 mask, in the opening of my garage. Worked pretty good except it did irritate my eyes a bit.

Got a 72 el camino that's next, so that's quite a bit larger than the guitar, and am trying to determine which paint to ultimately get once I complete the body work.

Valspar is urethane and will hold up good user-friendly and if you mess up will be a decent platform to build over and compared to other automotive paints pretty inexpensive
