Firebird Front Bumper Removal
Whilst out shopping last week, I parked my car 3/4 out away from the mall entrance, like always. Well I come back out and someone hit my car and left a nice hole in my front bumper. Luckily, there were witnesses and everything has panned out, insurance is sending me a check, etc.
I am looking to do the repair myself and would like to know how to remove the front bumper properly so I can get to cleaning the damaged area, sanding, matting, filling, priming, and painting it.
Any how-tos out there? Im sure it isn't difficult, I've just never removed a bumper before. Obviously putting the bumper back on would be reverse of taking it off.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you!
SAFETY FIRST, remove negative cable on battery and wait 10 minutes, I also pulled the appropriate fuse.
1. Raise the hood, remove the 3 pushpins on top of bumper between the headlights.
2. Underneath front bumper, remove 3 pushpins in the center. Remove bolts from black plastic on both sides.
3. Raise headlights, there is a screw on outer side of headlights. You can only see this if you raise them.
4. Remove bolts(2) each side, where bumper and fender meet. (Can be accessed from underneath, I removed the black plastic to aid in seeing what youre doing?
5. Remove bumper.
I cant recall if I remembered everything with this removal.
*** disconnect turn signal wires before removing bumper. Foglights will be fine on Trans Am since they're attached to the impact bar, where on the Firebirds they're attached to the bumper itself.
There are bumper cover mounting brackets on each side, in an "L" shape, you have to keep these from your old bumper unless you get new ones.
There may be misc. screws/bolts I may have missed, lightly pull on bumper cover and it seems to catch, there may be a bolt/screw holding it on, rather be safe than sorry.

IIRC, for the bolts that connect the bumper to the quarter panels i removed the wheel liner on each side (or folded it back out the way) enough where I could easily get to those bolts. For some reason that was easier for me than trying to get them from underneath from the splash guards...cant remember why.
Its not hard...once you get to looking you should be able to see everything but the photos in this thread will help u some.

01WS6 - I dont know man. People are ridiculous. It was a crappy old suburban with a metal bumper so I am assuming they just didnt give a hoot. Also they were from out of state, I live right on the border of Illinois. Assuming maybe they didnt have insurance? But good thing for the citizens who care and took pics!!!
