Default Hood Bird/Paint Question.

I just ordered this in black...

When I apply this I want to remove the clearcoat first. This way I can have a paint shop clearcoat over it to help protect and seal it in. Is color sanding easy enough if I take my time? I have no prior body shop experience. I would like to save some money, if possible, by having the paint shop just apply the clear coat. Or should I leave all of this to a pro?

Is it vinyl? If it is don't bother getting it cleared. When it comes to sanding make sure you have the right grit if not you can make problems for yourself.

May I ask why? Is there a negative side-effect to painting over vinyl?

You risk having it re-act. When it comes to time to shoot the clear it won't be level with the rest of the car.

If you decide to do it use 1200 grit sand paper and make sure you don't cut through, stay away from the edges. Clean it up and then apply "sticker" and make sure it's real clean before they re-clear it.

Hope this helps.
