Default Are 1/4 panels removable on a 95 Firebird? (PICS ADDED)

I just got myself a 95 bird that needs some TLC. Some time before me some jacka$$ plowed a trailer into the left 1/4 panel and the guy who sold it to me did a really crappy job fixing it. Tons of bondo and such. Ick. Basically eventually the paint started cracking and now it's up to me to make it look new again.

I've asked around and no one is sure if the 1/4 panels can be replaced. I haven't taken it to a shop yet to get an estimate but I'd like to know if I could just replace the whole panel with a new one or if I am stuck fixing the old one.

Thanks

Yes, you can put a new one on, but the old one has to be removed by drilling the spot welds out, and welding a new quarter on. It's not cheap, but they can be replaced.

by "not cheap" you mean I should just get the panel fixed and not replace the whole panel? I was actually almost tempted to replace the panel myself and give it to a shop to paint but I was talked out of it. Apparently I didn't know how difficult that could get. I think it may cost much cheaper just to get that bump fixed and that's all...

Obviously, you have no clue what you are getting into( no offense), and I highly doubt you have all the tools to remove/replace a quarter panel, so I would suggest letting a body shop do it, if you decide to spend the money. It takes an experienced body man to get a new quarter to fit correctly, so it's not something easy for "the average Joe off the street".

You are over $1000 to replace a quarter, just to give you a ball park idea. I don't have a collision guide in front of me at the time, to quote prices, but just so you know, it'll take at least a grand to get started replacing it.

You got pics, you can post?

No offense taken. I really have no clue what I'm getting into. As far as tools, I have a welder and a drill but I've heard it's a bytch to get the 1/4 to fit correctly. And I'm even less than the average Joe off the street. So yeah, I'm not even going to attempt that then, but that's fine, I just learned something

I'll post pics on Thursday night or Friday morning as it's sitting in a friend's garage right now. Maybe you'll be able to tell me what's the best thing to do, so that at least I'll know when I talk to shops if the guys know what they're talking about...

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, post some pics, bud. I will try to help you if I can, or suggest a route you should go.

You're welcome, and I hope some of us can help you out. I'll check back in, to see if you got some pics in this thread at week's end, for us to see what you have to deal with. Talk to you soon.

All right. I'm a day late but better late then never I guess...

So there are three things here that are major eye sores. The obviously big one, this is the dent in the 1/4 panel which is the reason why I started this thread... Then there are a couple pictures of the driver's door all scratched up to hell, I definitely want to fix that. And, third biggest eye sore is all the paint that's peeling and bubbling up on the trunk lid.

So what do you guys think? I'm mostly worried about the quarter panel of course but those other things do bug me.

Anyways here are the pics....

Don't worry, dude. It can be made to look like new, and you don't need to buy any body parts. You just need a good body man, and it can be repaired to look like it never was damaged.

So I brought her in today... The guy is very respected in the community here and swore he would "make her look good" (those were his exact words)...

I feel like such an idiot because I'm so nervous!! Is it common? I can't wait to see her all new and shiny... I just remembered that I had a dream last night where I got the car back and the cracked paint was all fixed and smooth but the body had waves on it, so I was fighting with the guy to have him do it again...

Will post pics when it comes back
