Body Side Moldings?

Body Side Moldings? Are the 4th gen f bod body side moldings removable like the vette? Or will there be some horrible line underneath when I remove them?
The only reason why I ask, is that they look like **** on my car, that is the only spot where the paint looks bad, it is peeling and cracking off and I either need to get rid of them or paint them.
Next question, if I need to keep them, what do you guys think would look better, black or the body silver color. I have a silver z28 with black : 1) top half/mirrors, 2) berger panel, 3) cragar ss style wheels. and a billet grill...

If the paint is peeling/cracking on them then the side of the car has most likely been painted with the mouldings still on the car. If you take them off your going to have a horrible double paint edge that will look ten times worse than the mouldings. Try a small moulding and see what it looks like before going crazy with all of them.
