Default Tinting clear black?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to tint clear or a base coat clear black, kind of like making it a kandy. I want to spray my tail lights and i know there is vht but i prefer automotive paint if i can get away with it.

I haven't tried that, but I've heard of a "transparent black" that will give the results you're looking for. I may have to try that out sometime though.

I know alsa makes some stuff like that but alsa sucks. Their candys dont darken up until you add almost the hole concentrate. Plus i have tried their mirror chrome product and i was not happy with it, spraying it directly over polished clear and expect life out of it, i dont think so.

alsa is cool depending on what you use from them, i swear by their pla-stick, **** is awesome also their effect paints are cool. But i agree with you about their candies, i wasnt happy there either.

but as far as you are asking, just black base coat works. The darker you want the more coats. then top coat it with some clear. Its what i did to mine

Ya i tried it. It works but and depending on how many coats you put one you can make it as dark as you want to you can still see them at night.

Well i tinted the clear basecoat with the same black i shot on my car. I was really suprised with the result. I sandedt he lights down with red scotch bright and then threw a coat of bulldog adhesion promoter just for extra protection and then i started tinting the lights i gave them three coats and i decided that was enough. After that i threw two coats of clear to finish them and they look like glass. I can stand five feet away and they look completely black. I will post pics tomorrow when they are dry and safe to handle.

equal parts of pagan gold, apple red, and cobalt Kandy would have yielded a black kandy that would give you what you were looking for, but it sounds like you are happy with the base/clear method.

Man i honestly cant tell you how much clear because i have tons of it at the shop i used about four ounces if that. But i did not tint the clear i tinted clear base coat and then cleared with regular untinted clear. Clear basecoat is basically paint with no pigment just transparent, then i just tinted it and checked it with the mixing stick i would dip it in the mix and see if i could see through the paint to my mixing stick then when i thought it was concentrated enough i started tinting the side lights and blinkers. When i saw how much those got tinted i started on my rear lights.

yeah it depends on how the sun is shining on it, on the part its directly getting hit you can see the honey comb better but i did not want to get darker than that i was scared of losing transparency.

We have painted a ton of lights at the shop. Just regular black reduced pretty good and then cleared.

None yet on an f-body though.
