Default Painting chrome?

is there a proper way of painting chrome? the reason why im asking is cause i completely hate chrome and i want it black. its not for my F-body but its for my other car im building.

yes but you have to properly prep the surface...its like glass and it needs to be ruffed up....i have seen chrome finishes paint black..

i did the same with my bug, everything chrome when satin black. Some peices i just roughed up, primered then prepped for paint. Others i used a flex add/ adhesion prompter (bulldog) and having had any real issues yet.

I would rough it up with some sandpaper so the paint has something to stick to

all the chrome ive ever seen painted seemed to chip real easy but it can be done

sandpaper wont do the trick it needs to be a machine......something that will really eat the surface..

i painted a chrome bmx bike when i was younger, it was origionally chrome and i just roughed the chrome up a bit and it painted over pretty well, i used white paint and didnt have any issues with the paint chiping.

the best way to paint chrome is to have the chrome stripped and then prep the metal, prime the metal, wetsand the primer(this will also remove any imperfections in the metal) and the paint. it will last the longest. if these are rims your painting or anything that might get hit with little rocks or anything on the road powdercoat them because its a hundred times for durable then paint
