Default JB Weld Experts

I've used JB Weld for plenty of things before, but never for what I'm thinking about doing now.

Question #1: Will paint stick to this stuff? Assuming I scuff it up a bit with sand paper, will the paint stay on as good as it would for metal/plastic/etc.?

Question #2: Anyone ever use JBW to repair exhaust? It says it's good to 600*F, and I'm working down stream of the cats (muffler) so I doubt it's more than 600*F in that location.

Thanks.

1 Yes.
2. It'll eventually crack off, but downstream of the mufflers it should last a while.

Blah. That's what I was afraid of.

Thanks for the info, guess I won't waste my time with it then. The muffler isn't rusted all the way through, just the outer shell is cracking a bit, thought I try to patch it up before it gets worse. I was planning to keep the stock catback on my '02 car to keep things quiet for my 5am departures for work. Guess I'll just wait till the muffler actually falls apart, then look for a quiet replacement.

Mine was on my Jeep, it had little holes where it was welded or rivited I guess. I made a nice even patch over each one. I let it dry for almost 30 hours... flaked off like nothing... even prepped it with a wirebrush and brake cleaner

I was going to do the exact same thing; wire brush & sand paper, then brake cleaner, then JBW and paint. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

The exhaust rust is due to the fact that my '02 car was driven in Chicago winters by the previous owner. Stupid IL winters.

I tend to drive my garage queen '98 car pretty easy, but the '02 gets hammered on.

A LONG time ago I used some heat activated metal tape stuff on a beater. Worked like a charm! It was some kind of muffler/pipe repair kit sold at Pepboys.
