How to take care of rust Ok its not on my Camaro, thats in storage right now, but my S-10 is rusting really bad near the bottom rear part of the extended cab right now. Is there any way to take care of this or is it just going to keep going. I just noticed it is 100% worse than when I looked at it maybe a month ago. The salted roads during a WI winter does not help.
if its on the outside body, use sand paper and sand roughly 2" around the rust. if its just surface rust then make sure theres no more rust anywhere on the body, at this point you have bare metal and it will oxidize quickly. use something like paint thinner or something that displaces water, this will "cure" the surface for paint. use rustolium primer and paint if you dont mind it showing on your body. If its on the under side, cut, patch, weld, paint. i painted the whole underside of my TA with bedliner, this helps with the salt... i live in IL and i think they use more salt than they do shovels

Once it starts, it all has to be ground off(or if it's bad enough, welding in patch panels) and refinished. Something such as POR15 could work decent over it to keep the rust from spreading.
