Default Door Rust

Ok, I have a 95 Z28. The body is in great shape. It has been garaged most of it's life. Spent its first two years in OH, then went to South Carolina for 3 years, and then in San Diego area ever since. The last 6 months I have had to keep it outside because I live in an apartment. It is covered by either a car cover or a covered parking spot 80% of the time. The paint is starting to crack a little in the nose. Today I noticed two liitle spots of rust in the door by the foot boards. They are only the size of a pen tip. What is the best way to control this before it gets out of hand? What about the cracking paint? It is not severe, the paint is not chipping, I am just starting to see the little crack lines. I have heard that you can use a heat gun and rub it with a leather glove. This sounded kind of dangerous, that I might really **** it up. Any help?

Are you sure that it is not your rocker panel that is rusting? Your doors are made of SMC which is like fiberglass except for the intrusion beam in the middle.

Could be flakes of metal from a grinder that got imbeded into the paint surface if the car has spent any time in a body shop. I had theese in my drivers side window and didn't discover them untill I got the windows tinted and I noticed rust spots on the glass. The window tint guy says he sees it all the time.
