Default Por-15

Did a search, couldnt find anyone that may have done this. I am picking up a quart of Por-15 for when I get my new rear in a month or two, I was considering at the same time while my engine is apart to clean up and paint my valve covers and water pump and possibly other things with it aswell.

Has anyone here done this? Pics would be cool.

Ya I agree, I seen their prep system on their website aswell. As I say, was considering using it on my aluminum valve covers and water pump, was checking to see if anyone else had done it. It's going to go on my new rear diff when I order one forsure.

Well, I'll go on record saying I'll never use the stuff again.

I've wasted more than I've used. The stuff dries in the can while it sits, even if you try to be careful. Or the lid gets stuck to the can, and then you're hosed. My usage rate of POR-15 was about 50% or less of the can (so it cost twice as much as it "should have"). It doesn't sit around very long or very well.

Marine Clean is a good cleaner. It takes the dead skin right off your hands. It strikes me as very ph-basic (lye) type cleaner.

Metal Ready does its job, but you have to make sure to wash it off and clean any MR residue off before applying any products over the top of it.

I will use a good black epoxy primer instead of POR15. As a 2-part coating (primer plus activator), it doesn't go bad like POR15 does. Plus, you can topcoat epoxy primer later if you want... POR15, once it's dry, can't really be topcoated (must do so within the first day drying window).

I know POR15 is popular, but I think epoxy primer is a more cost effective, better solution for me.

A guy I know from another site, did the whole underside of the unibody with por, I also did my floor pans with it after I put the patch panels in in my 71.
Sorry I have no experience with using it on engine parts, but here are some pics:

Painted my truck's frame with it. Stuff works pretty well. Nice thing is that alittle bit goes a loooooong way.
