chevelle custom firewall question

im currently having the bodywork done on my 67 chevelle . i would like to smooth the firewall ,what would be the best way to do this ? should they go over the existing firewall or cut out the metal and replace it? thanks for any input r advice . JOHN

I did the same thing in my 67 firebird. After the seam sealer was all gone, I went over it wiht dynaglass, then a layer of evercoat. seemed to do the trick. Check around, companies make smooth firewall steel sheets that you can put over your existing firewall. There might be one out there for your application.
