What can be done about the paint chip problem on this?
What can be done about the paint chip problem on this? Does fixing this really require resurfacing the whole hood? The rest of the hood looks great.

You can blend the paint but i would clear the whole hood. If you blend the clear the blend line will show up later on. If you plan on keeping the car i would clear the whole hood then you have no problems.

yes the whole hood gets resprayed. The color is blended out about 12-18 inches into the existing color, but the clear coat needs to be layed down as a solid even layer, thus the whole hood gets sprayed.

The small chip you can half *** with touch up, but brushed on paint wont ever look as good as a true repair.

i'll be the first to say no.. don't repaint the whole hood. here's what you do..
get touch-up paint (tiny amount)
get que-tip.
dab a very small amount of paint over the whole chip, wait 8 hours.. repeat, repeat, repeat, until the paint is ABOVE the level of the rest of the paint.
now wet-sand the chip with a flat object until it's level with the surrounding paint, and buff.. no-one except you will ever notice it again.
