Computer differenced between 00 and 01?

Computer differenced between 00 and 01? I know that the 2002-2002 don't have EGR while my 2000 does. Is there a difference in the 2001 computer that doesn't have the software to throw the not ready code?
I just installed an LS6 intake w/o EGR provisions on my 2000, and want to get rid of the code. I know that a tuner can delete it, but when I get it inspected, it will show up as not ready.
Do the inspection stations know that 2000 has EGR and 2001 don't?
Please help me understand.

1999+ LS1 controllers are the same for the most part,
some are 516k and some are 1mb and the OS is different depending on the model/year.
As far as inspection, i don`t know for sure but i would think they go by model year.
It probably depends on the shop.
